Investment Club

The Investment club will meet on a weekly basis. While the direction of the club will be steered to fit student interest, the basic philosophy of the club will be to explore current business trends in order to make investment predictions.  Students will have an opportunity to invest in virtual portfolios with emphasis on stocks, mutual funds, and ETFs.  Currency markets are also a point of interest.  The goal of the club is to help prepare students for real world investment opportunities.

The investment club will apply, among others, the following standards from the ASA math curiculum:

Statistics

  1. Construct and draw inferences from charts, tables, and graphs that summarize data from real-world situations
  2. Use curve fitting to predict from data
  3. Understand and apply measures of central tendency, variability, and correlation
  4. Transform data to aid in data interpretation and prediction
  5. Understand histograms, parallel box plots, and scatterplots and use them to display data
  6. Understand how basic statistical techniques are used to monitor process characteristics in the workplace
