Level 3-5

The purpose of the HTML Club is to teach students how to make a web site on a topic of their choosing. The web site will consist of 5 pages. An introduction page, an About page, links page, and two Content pages solely on the topic of their choosing. Finished work will be published on ASA's main site.

Lesson 1 Programs to Use
Demonstrate to students the two programs used to make a web site. The first program is Notepad. This program is used to make the web pages. The second program is IE. This is the program used to open a web page and check progress.

  1. Explain what a web page is and that more than one web page make a web site.
  2. Have them brainstorm a "topic" for their web site.
  3. Have students get familiar with how to open programs, save and reopen a notepad document.
  4. Explain what HTML is and what are "tags."
  5. Have them start an Introduction page and show them basic tags, such as, HTML, BODY, P, B, and BR.

Lesson 2 Changing Simple Page Attributes
Have students open their previously saved page. Explain objects and properties. Show them how to change background color and text attributes such as font, size, and color. Hex Colors

Have students create a links page, and add sites to it that are similar to their site.
